When we came [to see Gina] it felt like we were each doing our own thing. Now it feels like this is something we’re doing together... something that will bring us even closer.
It was really good for me to have a facilitator help me move from scarcity and fear to connection.
— Alissa & Stephanie, Seattle, WA

After meeting with Gina, we’ve been closer than ever [in our fourteen year marriage].

WHAT I DON'T DO

  • Sit and nod - instead, we'll take action (I've been described as "direct and not-coddling")

  • Add shame or judgment to your experience (there's already too much of that in the world)

  • Assume your experience is the same as my own

  • Pathologize you (I don't treat mental illness, so you won't receive a diagnosis, assessment or treatment for mental health conditions or substance use)

  • Support couples who are actively violent with one another- your safety needs to come first, then our work together can begin

WHAT I DO

  • Understand the unique dynamics and issues that arise for non-traditional couples (based both in lived and professional experience)

  • Use a strengths-based approach to help you grow in a positive direction

  • Develop an individualized plan to change the way you do relationships

  • Follow a sex-positive kink-knowledgeable framework and draw from extensive experience as a sex educator

  • Help you listen, build trust and communicate effectively with yourself and those you love

  • Keep momentum and hope alive - even when it's hard for you to feel hopeful

“I’m really not a big therapy person, but Gina made it easy to talk to her without judging us and her help really got us thinking bigger about what we need in life and from each other.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m glad we went through it.”
— Adam & Cassandra, Beaverton, OR

INVESTING IN REAL CHANGE

The benefits of coaching, like any learning process, are a result of the investment you’re willing to make. Clients in couples coaching invest in three main ways:

TIME

Time scarcity is a real issue many of my clients struggle with. When you engage in coaching you are investing valuable time into changing the patterns in your partnership.

  • Most clients meet me 2x per month, though some opt for additional sessions during times of significant stress or confusion. I ask clients to commit to one repeating meeting time in our schedules to create some reliability and regularity for our conversations.

  • I ask all clients to agree to a three-month coaching agreement to ensure more sustainable change and growth. I’m not interested in quick-fixes that leave you feeling great for a moment and then hopeless when they prove unsustainable. With three months as a baseline, we’re far better prepared to implement meaningful growth.

ENERGY

Few people think about the emotional energy involved in doing relationship work. It’s important you’re really able to show up authentically, be seen and vulnerable, and be really honest with yourself, me, and your partner. Even for highly functioning couples this can mean a big shift in your communication patterns.

  • All relationships are co-created. Therefore, for coaching to work please be open to self-reflection and personal accountability. Be ready to look at your own contributions to the dynamics between you.

  • I highly recommend you bolster your self-care practices to nourish your body, mind, and soul as we work together. Consider hiring individual support, a therapist, coach, or spiritual leader who you can work through things individually with in addition to our couples work.

  • Our work continues beyond session. I will offer you reading, videos, recordings, and reflection guides to support your work and growth outside session. The more you can engage in these thoughtfully the more impact our work will have in your life.

MONEY

  • I bill all clients on a monthly basis (for 2 sessions per month) with a credit card they keep on file. I do not bill insurance plans, though many clients have used FSA and HSA cards to pay me. Additional sessions are paid per session.

How does online couples support work?

Once we've met for a free consultation and decided we're a good fit to work together, you'll get a link from me to schedule your appointments according to your schedule and time zone.  You'll also receive a link to my online forms and coaching contract.

You'll pay for sessions up front and we'll both log in to Zoom for our calls so we can see and hear each other.  This program protects your privacy and allows better connection than most others for our meetings. You can watch tutorials about this program here to prepare for our session if you are new to online video meetings.

It's really simple.

What's different about online couples work?

There are very few small differences. I require payment upfront for online work and expect clients to agree to a three-month-commitment because it can be difficult to follow through for online clients.

Sometimes clients feel too comfortable in their own homes to focus or dive deep in the work. I recommend you make the most of your time by carving out full focus for our shared time.

All of that said, I've been delightfully surprised that I experience some of my most powerful couples sessions online.

What if we have a bad connection?

I've now hosted hundreds of online sessions and have experienced very few interruptions with clients who test their systems before our call.

This program protects your privacy and allows better connection than most others for our meetings. You can watch tutorials about this program here to prepare for our session if you are new to online video meetings.

How can I set myself up for success in online sessions?

Please fill out your new client forms at least 48 hours before our initial session. Be sure you fill out one form for each member of your party.  I also require payment before we begin online work.

Set aside time to meet me in a distraction-free environment.  Please note: I will not meet with you while driving for your safety.

Be sure you convert the time change correctly when scheduling. I use this tool to convert time zones easily when planning with clients outside the Pacific Standard Time zone (PST).

Register for Zoom for our video calls (it’s free). This program protects your privacy and allows better connection than most others for our meetings. You can watch tutorials about this program here to prepare for our session if you are new to online video meetings.

I highly recommend bringing a notebook or journal to session to collect your thoughts. I welcome the tools that best support your learning style.

How confidential is online couples work?

I use the Zoom program because medical professionals use it to guard client confidentiality.

That said, while I'll do everything in my power to protect your privacy and respect your confidentiality but there is no completely secure form of online communication. Anything can be hacked and any program has tech staff who are able to access your information. That's part of the trade off for the ease of online communication.

Please let me know if you have questions about the limits of confidentiality in our work.
